I dropped the oil pan plug into the bucket of hot oil! Luckily, I let the car sit for an hour after arriving at the shop so it didn’t leave any burns on my hand but it was still very uncomfortable feeling around for that pesky bolt!

Friend’s BMW on the rack, my Miata on the right, and the owner of this sweet garage has his Lotus Europa project in the back.

That looks like a very roomy shop, with a lot of insulation!

If I was doing this at my house, then you’re absolutely correct! Sadly, I don’t know where he keeps his magnetic tool at so I just did the straightforward approach!

He’s able to fit his semi-truck in there for maintenance!

I once did the same. Someone at work overfilled our skidsteer, so I went underneath to let some out. Outside, at -20°C, in the wind . The pan I had was big enough to hold all the oil so I wasn’t too concerned, except it was the kind that’s like a jug with a built-in final in the side. So when I dropped the drain plug, it went straight down the funnel hole and lodged there, not completely plugging the hole but obstructing it to where the oil wasn’t really dropping in the funnel. So as not to overflow the funnel, I shoved my finger into the oil pan’s drain hole. Couldn't quite reach my phone to call for help, couldn't reach down into the hole with my fingertips to retrieved the drain plug... It was about 20 minutes before someone else came along. At least the trickle of oil running down my finger was enough to keep my hand warm-ish.

You ain’t missing much in the midlands.  That said, you should totally bring one of your 3-series to an autocross whenever we host one at the Michelin tire-testing facility in Laurens.  I think it’s coming up in November or October.

I mean I had a good 20 minute lie-down break where no one bothered me about it. I was barely making more than  minimum wage at the time, so I wasn't exactly complaining.
